Vehicle Details
This stately long wheelbase division window limousine by Hooper has managed to survive the past six decades in remarkable overall condition. Of course it’s had restoration work over the years, but the car remains very much like it was when new on the showroom floor of Jack Barclay’s London RR dealership.
Hooper, along with James Young, was one of the better coach builders for bespoke motorcars in that era, and this saloon with power division window was delivered to a Col L. Jones of Kings, Ltd, in September of 1957. It was imported from the UK to SoCal about twenty years ago, having had its interior woodwork, leather and paint professionally redone before seeing service as a wedding car and placed in storage.
After coming to Colorado five years ago, FLW41 was taken to Mark Cursio, the best-known RR technician in the region, who rebuilt the cylinder head, cooling system and brakes to the tune of over $20,000 (receipts in hand). The car has since had tune up and other minor work done very recently. It starts immediately, runs great, all instruments work, the transmission shifts as it should and the car steers, brakes and rides, well, like a Rolls-Royce!
These elegant motorcars are wonderful icons of an age when the privileged high-born lived a fabulous lifestyle. Nothing today compares and having one is an experience any real car buff will appreciate and enjoy. Notice in the pictures that it still has its crystal decanter and glasses in the original drinks cabinet. The leather is all very nice, the paint the same, the radiator shell is unmarked—even the thermostat vanes are working! Restoring a post-war Rolls to this level would cost multiples of our price, but here’s YOUR chance to join the aristocracy for only $78,500.
