Vehicle Details
Mistrals have a special place in the Maserati hierarchy, being the last production model to use the fast and durable A6 twin-cam engine originally developed for Maserati’s 1950s Grand Prix racers. Fitted with twin ignition for reliability and three big twin-choke Weber carburetors for performance, Maserati was Ferrari’s principal rival in those days.
Maserati was an early-adopter of fuel injection (see the ‘Iniezione’ badge on the rear!), but in those early days of the technology, many of the cars were converted back to Webers for better running and simplified maintenance. This car was one of those converted back to triple Webers, but the original Lucas injection setup was saved and comes with the car. It has been here in dry Colorado and Wyoming nearly all its life and is a good, solid example with no accident history.
It was restored some years ago in its original colors, including an all-new black leather interior. The car runs great and is a lot of fun to drive. We have the original build sheet and other correspondence from Adolfo Orsi, Jr at the factory in Modena, who is a personal friend of the car’s owner. It has been in that gentleman’s collection of several vintage Maseratis for nearly twenty years. It has a beautiful set of Boranni wire wheels with chrome knock-offs, hubs & spokes and polished alloy rims (instead of the standard disc wheels) with period Michelin ‘X’ tires. We have documentation of the car’s original build specifications, that included several specially-ordered custom options ordered by the Italian industrialist who commissioned the car.
Our shop has serviced and tuned the car after being dormant for several years, and it’s a great driver, but the next owner should expect to do some further maintenance to address some oil leaks, etc. Mistrals are a ‘blue chip’ vintage Maserati and some have traded near $200K, making this unique car very attractive at our price.
