Vehicle Details

Throughout the Porsche 912’s initial 4-year production run, there were just over 32,860 examples produced. Of those, just 2,562 cars were Targa models. The Targas sold at a higher price than the coupes, but the real value came down to the rear window. This is a 1968 Porsche 912 Targa Soft-Window. The hard window option was first offered on the Targa in 1968, but some saw the value in the fabric rear window. By 1969, Porsche had decided the hard window would be the standard on all cars. This example left the factory with a soft window.

This rarity, coupled with the 1968 production date made this car possibly one of the last examples of the soft window Targa produced. In the following years, many soft-window Porsche Targas would be converted to hard windows, leaving the actual production numbers lost to time. This example came to us for a complete restoration. After media blasting, we performed expert metalwork, bodywork, then primer, then paint. Then reassembly.

Just a couple weeks ago, the owner flew into town and came by our shop to do some of his own personal shakedown on the car. He took the car on an extensive drive through the Rockies and up to Boulder for a day trip. When the car came back the owner developed a small list of things for our team to address before we ship the car back to him out of state. We addressed all points, and did additional shakedown. We are happy to say the owner drove the car without incident from Denver to Tahoe! Incredible.
