Vehicle Details

Few classic cars have enjoyed consistent enthusiast demand year in and year out like the ‘Pagoda’ SLs. Good ones are always in demand—key word being ‘good’—and a late 280 with automatic, power steering and A/C tops the desirability list. This one has been enjoying the dry climate in New Mexico for years and is a very clean, solid example. Our shop has brought its servicing up to date and the car is best described as a really high-level driver—only because it no longer has the original engine block.

Professionally restored in its original Mercedes #903 Medium Blue with dark blue tex, this car has been maintained far better than many have. The interior wood has been refinished in the correct gloss, the paint has been very well done and the seats have correct full padding with no sag. All chrome & brightwork are excellent and the trunk floor is perfect. In fact, there is no sign of past rust issues anywhere on the car. Our inspection has found that the spot welds are in place on the right fender, but the left has been repaired at some point, but is still the original fender and the hood has the original VIN stamp. The ’notches’ disappeared during the last repaint. However, the correct textured firewall pad and data plate are present. (Yes, the cam cover isn’t supposed to be polished.)

The dark blue soft top is in nice condition and the hardtop’s interior is immaculate. In the trunk the spare has its original cover, tools and packet of original owner’s books. Original Becker Europa multi-band radio still in place. An ideal choice for an SL you can drive and enjoy and not have to pamper like a 100-pointer. Pagodas have waxed and waned in the market over the years, but the trend is always up. Today, a fabulous 280 is a $200,000+ car, so this one is a great value.
