Vehicle Details

The vast majority of Mercedes 280s had the normal 2.8 liter 6-cylinder inline engine, but in 1970-1971 a customer could request the big new 3.5 liter V8—at considerable extra expense—in the 2-door coupe or a cabriolet. Not many of either were sold, which makes this car quite special.

Even more special is the fact that this car is an all-original time-warp example in fantastic condition, with only 57K miles! It is a three-owner car that has spent its time here in Colorado and also Southern California. There is no rust or corrosion under the body and no signs of any accident damage to the execllent original paint.

Mechanically it is in equally fine shape and runs & drives very well. The 3.5 has lots of power and feels like a modern car. The beautiful original Cognac leather has a wonderful patina (and smell) and door cards, headliner & carpets are all excellent.

The power windows and factory sunroof work fine and the car has been recently serviced. The full packet of original owner’s books are included, along with a car cover and a few spare parts the owner accumulated over the years—plus the original tools and never-out-of-the-trunk spare wheel & tire. The trifecta collectors always want are the floor shift option, original Behr air conditioning and Becker Europa radio—and this car has all three.

The cabriolet versions of these 111-series cars are nearing a half-million dollars today, but the coupe actually has a more solid structure and is otherwise the same car, but considerably more affordable.
