Vehicle Details

We love our unicorns here in the shop. Especially this 1 of 45 964 Carrera Cup cars. This one is in for some work from our paint detail team. Here’s a bit more about these remarkable 911s.

The 1992 Carrera Cup car was based on the 964-generation 911 Carrera 2, with Porsche building a limited number of special models specifically for homologation and racing use. Under the rear decklid sat a 3.6-liter flat-six M64 engine, producing around 260 naturally aspirated horsepower. Power was sent to the rear wheels through a 5-speed G50 manual transmission, delivering a raw, connected driving experience.

To make the car race-ready, Porsche undertook significant weight reduction. They removed sound insulation, rear seats, power steering, air conditioning, and other comfort features, leaving only what was necessary for performance. The suspension was upgraded with track-tuned coilovers and stiffer anti-roll bars, while larger brakes with ABS provided serious stopping power. Inside, the cockpit was stripped down and fitted with a full roll cage, racing bucket seats, and minimal trim—just enough to meet the demands of a true competition environment.

The result was a car roughly 200 to 300 pounds lighter than the standard 964 Carrera 2, transforming it into a razor-sharp track weapon, purpose-built for one of the most competitive one-make series of its era.
