Description

The Silver Spur (and its less-expensive sister, the Silver Spirit) were a great advancement over the previous Shadow-generation cars…which were a great improvement over the previous Cloud generation. Debuting in 1980, the Spur continued into the '90s with few changes and was one of Rolls' most popular models.

This three-owner example was with the last one for twenty years and remains in very nice condition. The Silver Sand over Mason's Black paint is in excellent condition, accented with the black Everflex padded top and a striking burgundy leather interior. It has beautiful wood veneers and inlays on the dash, door capping rails and rear tray tables. Dash leather, door panels, carpets and headlining are all very nice, as are the seats, with just a bit of wear on the driver's bolster.

The car has seen limited use in recent years, so the mileage is only 74K. Reassuringly, upon cold startup both hydraulic system lights extinguish within 30 seconds (per the manual) and the engine has none of the usual valve lifter noise, indicating diligent oil services over the car's life. CarFax outlines these services and shows nothing of concern apart from a minor accident that occurred over twenty years ago.

Cosmetically, the car is in far nicer condition than most similar-age examples, but the next owner should plan on new tires (they look great but are from 2005). We have just had a $2500 A/C service done that included a new compressor. All the lenses, brightwork, grille shell, glass and hubcaps are excellent. The undercarriage was given an ice-blasting treatment that reveals no rust or problems with the chassis. All the original owner's books and trunk equipment are in place—including the tool & bulb kit and spare mineral oil container in the trunk next to a recent battery. The car has no overheating tendency, shows by-the-book oil pressure & charging, all the lights, power seats & mirrors work and it runs very well.

Every car enthusiast should experience owning a Rolls-Royce at least once, and it would be very difficult to find a nicer-looking one than this, at even close to such an affordable price!
